The following songs can be freely downloaded below. Unfortunately, Peter and I had to record some vocals quickly (eg in my loungeroom!) as we live about 600 kms apart. The songs with the preface 'I' were originally recorded via a tape cassette - hence the sound is slightly different.

Peter and I ('shama') hope you enjoy the songs.

1. LORD, HERE AM I

(A song written to expose the ‘Super Christian’ who seems to have it all together: i.e. the ‘Knight’)

Lord, here am I

Wondering why You’ve entered my life

Wondering why Your love is covering me

Why among the few who’ve been chosen to see

Lord, here am I

There’s a Knight reposed in shining armour

He walks the street in nonchalant ease

The damsels flock to his side

Their hair dances in the summer breeze

There is never defeat, he crushes all his foes

Some return wounded, some fall in the field

Lord, here am I

Wondering why You’ve entered my life

Wondering why Your love is covering me

Why among the few who’ve been chosen to see

Lord, here am I

In the silence of the stone castle

He’s standing there naked, all alone

And only One knows

How much your heart has really grown

The Black Knight arrives, unseen by the crowd

A lance by his side, he is unwelcome but known

Lord, here am I

Wondering why You’ve entered my life

Wondering why Your love is covering me

Why among the few who’ve been chosen to see

Lord, here am I

2. FREEDOM

(Sitting in church one morning I saw these horses running around a large paddock, so free! Freedom was a subject Nicodemus listened to one night.)

See the horses running by the waters of the sea

That is freedom, that to me is being free

See the hanglider gliding, through the air so gracefully

That is freedom, that to me is being free

But I know of a freedom that surpasses all of these

A freedom expressed like the wind among the leaves

For it blows whenever it wishes, brings many to their knees

You hear only the sound of it; it goes where it does please.

The balloon rises heavenly, the views the people must see

That is freedom, that to me is being free

Or the speed of a skier, performing so skilfully

That is freedom, that to me is being free

But I know of a freedom that surpasses all of these

A freedom expressed like the wind among the leaves

For it blows whenever it wishes, brings many to their knees

You hear only the sound of it; it goes where it does please.

The surfer twists and contorts, as he bends quite low at the knee

That is freedom, that to me is being free

Watch the parachutist sail, descending so confidently

That is freedom, that to me is being free

But I know of a freedom that surpasses all of these

A freedom expressed like the wind among the leaves

For it blows whenever it wishes, brings many to their knees

You hear only the sound of it; it goes where it does please.

3. JESUS MESSIAH

(I wanted to write a song about Jesus: especially His sacrificial Mission of love in the face of so much opposition.)

Many people saw Him preaching

By the shores of Galilee

Many saw Him healing the crippled

Opening eyes so men could see

Saw Him casting out many demons

Saw Him teaching the wicked, the poor

Jesus Christ was truly human

The only Jew Who obeyed all the Law

The only Jew Who obeyed all the Law

Jesus Messiah was tempted by Satan

Evil forces waged war on Him

Men’s motives were naked before Him

He showed them their hearts of sin

The ‘church government’ hated this Man

This Man Who threatened their cause

Exalting themselves through burdening others

Jesus Christ exposed all their sores

Jesus Christ exposed all their sores

While men gloated in outward appearance

Jesus Christ looked into their hearts

Told them working to Heaven was futile

Only in Him was there a new start

A righteousness found only in Jesus

Like filthy rags are our righteous deeds

So He came & He ministered to us

Teaching to us the core of our need

Teaching to us the core of our need

In human flesh appeared the Almighty

Acknowledged as the Chosen One

Loved & cared, Good News He shared

He stood out more than the light of the sun

What would men do with the Anointed?

What would they do with the God of the lost?

Well, they tortured, blasphemed Him & beat Him

Then they nailed Him onto a cross

Then they nailed Him onto a cross

“Eloi, Eloi lama sabachthani!”

Then from His heart came a very loud call

Jesus Messiah gave up His spirit

He died the death of a criminal

Early one morning, they went to the graveside

All they could do was stand & stare

People rejoice in what they witnessed!

Jesus Christ was not found there!

Jesus Christ was not found there!

Jesus Christ was not found there!

Jesus Christ was not found there!

Song & Lyrics: Stephen R Cracknell

Musical Arrangement: Peter Aitken

4. HAVE YOU EVER?

(We sang one night to those who were struggling with addictions as well as other issues – they were a great audience! When I got home, I wrote this song for them.)

Oh won’t you guide them on their way Lord Jesus

Show them Your beautiful Face before they leave us

Oh won’t You step into their lives like You did to mine

I was dangling like a worm on the end of a very long line

Give them the peace of mind that they need now

Take them by their hands of bondage and lead now

Into that heavenly place we call ‘Paradise’

To be with you all would so very, very nice!

I know, it’s so hard, at the moment

Even though sometimes you try so hard not to show it

Respectfully, Jesus has been taken from the cradle

And to mend your precious lives, He is more than able

Direct their lives, help them to cross the fjord

Give them the strength to walk with You my Lord

Show them, like You do to me, so many worthwhile sights

So many worthwhile days with very few nights

Heartaches are always with us wherever we go

No matter who we are, perhaps you don’t know

That Jesus wept, He got troubled too

There was sorrow in His life; He had it for me & for you

I know, many of you have been searching for answers

And you’ve gained many regrets with luckless chances

So I’ve decided to dedicate this song just for you

In the hope, in the hope, in the hope, you will find Him too

Oh won’t you guide them on their way Lord Jesus

Show them your beautiful Face before they leave us

Oh won’t You step into their lives like You did to mine

I was dangling like a worm on the end of a very long line

I was dangling like a worm on the end of a very long line

Have you ever dangled like a worm on the end of a very long line?

Song & Lyrics: Stephen R Cracknell

Musical Arrangement: Peter Aitken

5. NO TEARS TOMORROW

(Peter & his brother sang this old poem at their mother’s memorial service. Peter had put this poem to music & sings it accompanied by his children: Josie on piano & Will on mandolin.)

“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.”

Revelation 21:4

No tears tomorrow in the land of Light;

No sigh of sorrow, and no shade of night;

Gleams of the dawning, songs at break of day,

Glow of the morning, grief has passed away.

No tears tomorrow in the land of Love;

No sob of sorrow in the home above.

Oh, the bright greetings on that golden shore!

Wonderful meetings where they part no more.

No tears tomorrow in the land of Rest;

No fears tomorrow on the Saviour’s breast;

Joy quenching sadness through eternal years;

God giving gladness when He wipes the tears.

No tears for ever in the land of Song;

No pain and never word or wail of wrong;

Peace like a river in that holy place;

Glory for ever when we see His Face.

Musical Arrangement: Peter Aitken

6. THOU, O GOD, ART THERE

(A song about God’s constant presence in a sinful fallen world that despises Him.)

The cascades sound their presence, like the roaring of a lion

The moon reveals her glory, while sages seek a sign

The stars are but a moment, ponder but do not stare

The Creator lives eternity, for Thou, O God, You are there

The mountains boast of heights and falls, like a weary trodden life

The rivers seek to master land and cuts it like a knife

Creation groans and suffers, death lies strewn near everywhere

Violence still seeks a crown, but Thou, O God, You are there

An age old face walks by here, it gets colder every day

It sweeps forgotten memories but they refuse to go away

Renewed by old acquaintances who give but do not care

It dissolved itself into a crowd, but Thou, O God, You are there

A little child was born today, a starter in the race

But it is blind and it is deaf, it is lost in time and space

The disease dislikes a cleansing, it loves to rip and tear

A universal cancer, but Thou, O God, You are there

Don’t tell me you don’t know the cure, we’ve lost so many lives to tell

Your genocide continues as the fire burns on in Hell

The pride of man with stiff knees that refuse to bend in prayer

One Day too late to learn, that Thou, O God, You were there

Song & Lyrics: Stephen R Cracknell

Musical Arrangement: Peter Aitken

7. EAGLES HAVE WINGS

(Written especially for young teenage Christians to grow in Him)

Is there an answer? Is it coming down my way?

Is there some truth in the words that the old prophets say?

I’ve seen myself in the pool in the light of the day

It’s time to get moving, I choose not to delay

Rivers do not cry, they just flow right on by

Eagles have wings, how majestic they do fly

Christian your wings, are designed to fly so high

Leave the nest and the rest, leave the rest to lie.

There’s purpose and strength in the faith you possess

There is time to work and there is time to rest

To be a disciple, you may have to go it alone

But you will be obvious for you will gnaw close to the bone

Rivers do not cry, they just flow right on by

Eagles have wings, how majestic they do fly

And Christian your wings, are designed to fly so high

Leave the nest and the rest, leave the rest to lie.

He said ‘those who love Me will obey My commands’

Do not be scared of the waves as they reshape the sands

The storms will arrive, you’ll feel the icy wind blow

But never ever lose that desire in Jesus to grow

Rivers do not cry, they just flow right on by

Eagles have wings, how majestic they do fly

Christian your wings, are designed to fly so high

Leave the nest and the rest, leave the rest to lie.

Song & Lyrics: Stephen R Cracknell

8. I DON’T BELIEVE IN YOUR CHRISTMAS ANYMORE

(Like many people, I really struggle with what Christmas has become).

The world keeps Him in a cradle; the church rocks Him to and fro

Unbelievers know that it is dangerous to let Lord Jesus grow

Can you imagine all of the damage? Imagine all of the strife?

If they realise that they have to surrender their self centred lives

Well they must go!

The dates are wrong, as is the song

That has flowed from unsaved lips too long

Another Christmas beckons, loudly as before

And I don’t believe in your Christmas anymore

Where is the saint who’ll take a stand and be counted for the Master?

Our sins are known for what they are but we cover them with plaster

Christmas carols sung by those with reservations in hell

While Jesus is kept marketed, a Baby fit to sell

Is the Son of God, is He fit to sell?

The dates are wrong, as is the song

That has flowed from unsaved lips too long

Another Christmas beckons, loudly as before

And I don’t believe in your Christmas anymore

Children exercise a growing greed, it’s covet time of the year

“I want this!” & “I want that!” I watch with eyes of fear

The booze flows & the Devil knows everyone does as he pleases

The hypocrites make their toast to God: “Happy Birthday Baby Jesus!”

Let’s raise our glass!

The dates are wrong, as is the song

That has flowed from unsaved lips too long

Another Christmas beckons, loudly as before

And I don’t believe in your Christmas anymore

Song & Lyrics: Stephen R Cracknell

Musical Arrangement: Peter Aitken

9. NEARLY HOME

(Another old poem Peter put to music very successfully!)

I am growing very weary

As the years fly on apace;

For I’m longing, sorely longing,

For a sight of Jesus’ face.

I have been a long, long journey

Over mountain, plain and moor:

Now I think that very nearly

All my travelling days are o’er.

Yet, on tracing all the pathway

Over which my feet have trod,

I’ve a thousand, thousand reasons

To sing praises to my God.

When the road was steep and rugged,

And I dared not walk alone,

Then He whispered words of comfort

Till the dreary way was done.

When I fell, through careless walking,

Then He heard me when I cried;

And I now can see He drew me

All the closer to His side.

I have passed though many troubles

And through worries great and small;

Ay, and often things I dreaded

Never came to pass at all!

Lyrics: Charlotte Murray (Poem)

10. REVIVE THE SOULS OF THE DEAD

(This song was inspired by Charles Wesley’s words “My chains fell off, my heart was free!” in the great hymn ‘And Can It Be’. Each stanza of the song below follows a 6 – 6 - 8 syllable pattern.)

“Long my imprisoned spirit lay,
fast bound in sin and nature's night;
thine eye diffused a quickening ray;
I woke, the dungeon flamed with light;
my chains fell off, my heart was free,
I rose, went forth, and followed thee.
My chains fell off, my heart was free,
I rose, went forth, and followed thee.”

                                                                          Charles Wesley

When the night is so dark

Many rumblings are heard

Enemies arrive and surround

The wolves barking loudly

Their white teeth bared proudly

Evil can be sensed all around

The Devil strides on by

In a black suit and tie

A wry grin from his ear to ear

In the dungeon he’ll keep

In a spiritual sleep

Souls he made unable to hear

Come take my hand Jesus

Come take this land Jesus

Revive the souls of the dead

In the cold of the night

They will never see light

They live deeply within a shroud

Blinded, close to their death

Their ears to be kept deaf

So the demons can laugh aloud

But what’s this I observe?

A dead soul, it does stir

It moves and wriggles in the cell

Through the bars has come Life

In the ranks there is strife

A soul has been redeemed from ‘hell’!

Come take my hand Jesus

Come take this land Jesus

Revive the souls of the dead

The old chains lie scattered

Prison clothes lie tattered

The iron door stands open and wide

So I follow the light

To the edge of the night

Where many tears are known and dried

The Source of this great news

Forgave my costly dues

My wrongs were ever before me

Now I know they’ve been paid

A King’s Sacrifice made

Proclaims to the world “not guilty!”

Come take my hand Jesus

Come take this land Jesus

Revive the souls of the dead.

Come take my hand Jesus

Come take my land Jesus

Revive the souls of the dead

(I02) I DON'T BELIEVE IT

(This is a song about the futility of not wanting to grow in obedience and maturity through the grace of God and His Spirit's grace in sanctifying us. I call this 'the deeper life' - not a mystical Keswick approach - but our role ('striving') in obedience. When I first became a Christian I attended a liberal church. An old man countered my arguments about the authority of the Scriptures with a 'cop-out' approach - everything was black and white when I was younger but now - there are a myriad of grey shades! I never forgot it!)

CHORUS: No, I don’t believe it

I don’t believe the world can take away my joy

I am sick and tired of hearing the devil’s laughter

As he plays with Christian babies like a toy

The old man looked at me and he said these words

“Everything was black and white when I was young”

Many people waited for me to lose those early fires

By the grace of God they’ll wait till the Kingdom comes

It’s the deeper life I will strive for

The Spirit of God awaits my surrendered will

Warming pews is not really my aim or style

I have no wish to decorate the window sill

I’m going to press on to that higher calling

Through the strength He gives to me, I’m going to grow

After He shows me truth I’ll continue seeking

It’s the Master I have been born to know

Tell me – what is life that does not include Jesus?

I really don’t believe you can

Then why do we suck on bottles of milk like babies?

In our understanding we should be a ‘man’

Song & Lyrics: Stephen R Cracknell

Musical Arrangement: Peter Aitken

(I05) MY EYES ON YOU

(This song is about us as ‘sinners’ and also a song about us as ‘saints’ as per Romans 7. The life we live is a real one with all its ups and downs, fears and joys. How can a mighty God love someone as wretched as me? Well, the answer to that is the grace found in Jesus Christ – a mighty Saviour – not my good deeds).

Lord You have given to me all there is to have

And I don’t deserve a single thing

You have given me a mind to create and hands to play

And a voice that I may sing

You have given me faith through grace, so I can believe

I have no need to seek a sign

You have given me the greatest gift I’ve ever known

He is with me all the time

Lord Jesus, help me to keep my eyes on You

And I will try to do all the things You want me too

I am so scared, I will stumble, I will fail

I want to fly, O Lord, I want to sail

There are times when I do not respond in prayer

The pages of Your Word do not see the light

My sins are before me, they are left unconfessed

Too many times I walk by sight

The lost I talk to but I sometimes do not share You

I’m afraid of what they will say

And I deny You in the way I sometimes live

Why am I so often afraid?

My faults are known by You, I give them to You now

My life is Yours, You can have it all

I realise there is a nature within me that causes pain

And will sometimes cause me to fall

But Lord Jesus, I thank You for re-making me

Make me bolder in the years to come

I want to be so strong, my aim is to please You

With lots of courage and lots of love

Song & Lyrics: Stephen R Cracknell

Musical Arrangement: Peter Aitken

(I07) THIS IS A LOVE SONG

(A young man’s idealistic vision of a being a single Christian man who knows that one day – the woman of his dreams will enter his life. He projects to the future as to the ideal relationship with a Christian woman).

This is a love song; never met you at all

This is a love song; never even seen your face before

This is a love song; time is slowly ticking by

This is a love song; we’ve got wings (watch us!) we’re going to fly

Time will prove that I’m right

Time is a healer, also a revealer

Brothers and sisters will witness the sight

They love to care, share and just be there

Of you and me walking so close together

Taking time to talk about whatever

Through the lazy crazy days, sunshine and stormy weather

This is a love song; I know your beauty, I can perceive it

This is a love song; you’re trusting Him, I believe it

This is a love song; you do not know me, I do not even know you

This is a love song; we’re certain of our spiritual rendezvous

We’ll wait patiently for each other until the right time

All those who love the Lord know all things work together

Waiting on the Lord, the Master, the true vine

Asking Him in faith, rest in His direction

Then we’ll blossom forth like flowers in the snow

No need to fake it, we know we’re going to make it

Loving each other, with Him, our only cause to grow

This is a love song; never met you at all

This is a love song; never even seen your face before

This is a love song; you do not know me, I do not even know you

This is a love song; we’re certain of our spiritual rendezvous

Certain it’s me and you

(I08) I THINK I FELL IN LOVE TONIGHT

(Young Christian single men are attracted to attractive women from time to time – even non- Christian women. I, as a single young bloke in my 20’s, was on a train trip one evening, to visit family in Cootamundra when a train hostess caught my eye. It posed a dilemma – Christian men are supposed to fall in love with only Christian women!)

O Lord, I confess yet another fault

I showed the white flag, I lost the fight

I re-traced old footsteps that began to fade

And I think I fell in love tonight

I see her face, I see her smile

Her radiance enlightens a tired old mind

Another face to haunt lonely moments?

I grope for solace and hope not to find

I trust You with my life and my love Lord

But the pains they are deep and they hurt with age

I painted a portrait with my own paints

Only to dissolve upon the stage

The face I fell in awe I see

Perhaps a gentle personality

Seeks to be known behind magnetic eyes

She’ll never hear the battle cries

And the fact that she doesn’t know You

Makes her symbolic in a way

But how many do Lord? And in such full measure

As the one I want to spend my days

The face I fell in awe I see

Perhaps a gentle personality

Seeks to be known behind magnetic eyes

She’ll never hear the battle cries

O Lord, I confess yet another fault

I showed the white flag, I lost the fight

I re-traced old footsteps that began to fade

And I think I fell in love tonight

Song & Lyrics: Stephen R Cracknell

Musical Arrangement: Peter Aitken

(I09) TIME WILL BE NO MORE

(A song about the One who is really in control – God! and who is not – rebellious man)

I will praise the Master for His efficacious grace

A salvation planned by Jesus of which I need not chase

The mind of man may chart a course but I am quite assured

I rest my case upon the Rock and on His love outpoured

I’ve seen the dreams of so many men, they shatter like a glass

Their temporal transparencies seem something of a farce

They continue to surround themselves to stimulate their vanity

Crowds of applauding men-like sheep, nearly all humanity

Solomon in meditation could never have perceived

The wisdom of the Master’s plan, the Master never leaved

The world to its devices to drown like shipwrecked men

He throws the world a life-rope; a chance to live again

Enslaved to ideologies, make-up on their philosophies

Ignoring the Great Theophany, man continues on his way

A mushroom cloud ignites the sky; man bows his head to stare

At the ship that leaves the port from a world that doesn’t care

While the sands are falling through the narrow glazen neck

Jehovah remains sovereign; there are many hands on deck

To steer the mighty galleon into harbours safe and sure

A final journey for the crew and time will be no more

Song & Lyrics: Stephen R Cracknell

Musical Arrangement: Peter Aitken

REVIVE IN US THE AGE-OLD STORY

(A song about the need for personal renewal by the One Who loves us dearly)

O Lord, give us back the desire

That once set our hearts of fire

With voices that sang out higher

Than angels, so it seemed

Kindle our spirits anew

That longed only to please You

Even though the cold winds blew

We need wills washed and cleaned

Son of God and Lord of Glory

Revive in us the age-old story

Of priceless love and love abounding

Holy love, love astounding

Suffering and all His pain

In His Body without fault or stain

Upon Himself – the world of sin

Of this, I want to sing and sing

Melt us through Thy heavenly care

Knowing You are always there

Joy and praise entwined with prayer

A fire, Lord, a fire

For granted we now take you Lord Jesus

Far from a life that really pleases

Warm us with Your summer breezes

A fire, Lord, a fire.

Son of God and Lord of Glory

Revive in us the age-old story

Of priceless love and love abounding

Holy love, love astounding

Suffering and all His pain

In His Body without fault or stain

Upon Himself – the world of sin

Of this, we want to sing and sing

Song & Lyrics: Stephen R Cracknell

Musical Arrangement: Peter Aitken

WOULD THEY UNDERSTAND?

(Would my friends truly understand my life changing decision to become a Christian? The "voices" in this song are the voices of those who proclaim the Gospel).

Would they understand?

Would they understand?

If I shifted my house and built it off the sand

Would they understand

If I found some better land?

Would they understand?

Would they understand?

Come a little closer

Listen to their voices

They are calling, calling your name

They are calling, calling your name

Could I take a stand?

Could I take a stand?

Even though much evil has permeated the land

Could I take a stand?

And rise above the land

Could I take a stand?

Could I take a stand?

Come a little closer

Listen to their voices

They are calling, calling your name

They are calling, calling your name

Do they know the plan?

Do they know the plan?

They hear the voices but I don’t think they understand

Do they know the plan?

Of a new and Promised Land

Do they know the plan?

Do they know the plan?

Come a little closer

Listen to their voices

They are calling, calling your name

They are calling, calling your name

Come a little closer

Listen to our voices

We are calling, calling your name

We are calling, calling your name

Song & Lyrics: Stephen R Cracknell

Musical Arrangement & Performance: Peter Aitken
